Case Study
Barrow CEVC Primary School’s pool had been built 60 years ago by village volunteers and had slowly suffered over time, as is the case all over the country. The pool was very much on its last legs and so we approached the school to completely fund the re-development of the pool in return for exclusive use outside of school hours. This would mean the school and local community of Barrow would get a brand-new pool to use all-year-round and ESA would have a new venue to offer private swimming lessons.
On our very first meeting we instantly hit it off with the school and it was clear this was going to be the start of a great relationship. In October 2015, we finally had the go ahead and work commenced the very next week!
The first step was to strip the whole building back to its bare bones. We knocked down the old changing partitions and removed everything from the building except for the pool structure itself.
The pool had not had working drains, showers or toilet facilities in the past. We installed new changing rooms, shower facilities, lighting and a w/c to ensure total effectiveness of the building as a venue for lessons. As standard, we had opted for our trademark clean, fresh look throughout and used only the highest quality materials for longevity and energy efficiency.Works that we initiate with partners are not purely for show – At ESA we pride ourselves on delivering solutions that will lower running and maintenance costs for owners. The installation of 52 new double-glazed windows and a top-of-the-range air-source heat pump, which uses just 25% of the electricity of the old system, all help to keep the carbon footprint of the building as low as possible.
Our works on community pools such as Barrow even netted us an award for Community Business of the Year in 2017!
As a direct result of working in close partnership with Elite Swimming Academy over the last 3 years, our refurbished swimming pool at Barrow Primary has become a real asset to the school and an important enhancement to our provision for the children.
The pupils at Barrow are benefiting hugely from our much improved swimming facilities as part of their year round PE provision. We are also able to make the pool available to the local community and professional lettings have been steadily growing. The team at Elite are professional and responsive, ensuring that working relationships are smooth and harmonious.
We are delighted to have ESA as one of our key local partners and look forward to many more years of working collaboratively together to continue to provide a high quality swimming offer for children and families in the area.
