“The water is your friend…you don’t have to fight with water,
just share the same spirit as the water, and it will help you move.”
For me, swimming is the best sport in the world. It is my passion, my life and an inseparable part of me. I am a proud father of a 12 year old girl, who shares my passion and whom I taught how to swim from a very young age.
I myself started swimming at the age of 5 when I joined a professional swimming school. It would be true to say that I grew up in the water, as we spent long hours daily in the swimming school pool. I started participating in international swimming competitions from the age of 9 and always ended up on the pedestal. Butterfly was my best style. At the age of 17, I was a part of the national swimming team of my country.
My love for water and the sea led me to a professional career in shipping, which I successfully pursued for many years. Not too long ago I sat down and asked myself, ‘What do I naturally enjoy and what knowledge and skills could I share with other people?’ It was at that point that I decided to come back into the swimming community as a coach this time and get my teaching qualifications.
I have very warm memories of my swim coach, who was always very calm and kind to us, kids, so I am trying to show the same attitude to my own students now as I believe that a calm approach to teaching makes the children feel at ease and I always aim to make them smile and enjoy my lessons.
I love teaching the beginners, the learning phase and also the very competitive swimmers. The best thing about teaching is seeing someone’s progress. Having someone go from not swimming to swimming, seeing someone improve their strokes and knowing you are the primary cause is a very big achievement for me.
Swimming is something I love and I want to pass my love of the sport on to new people as it is a very important life skill for everyone.
See you in the pool.
