As a child I attended my local swimming club, which meant I grew up confident in the water, and more able to enjoy water based activities many of peers were still too nervous to participate in. My own two children also learnt to swim at an early age and attended lessons for many years meaning they are now both strong, confident swimmers and I don’t need to worry when they leap into the Cam at the end of exams!
Having spent many hours observing lessons as a parent on poolside I became interested in becoming a swimming teacher myself, viewing swimming as a life skill and a parental duty to ensure all children are safe in and around water. I see swimming as a fun and accessible way of keeping fit and healthy in all stages of life and want to help promote this.
I thoroughly enjoyed my training to become a swimming teacher and, in the process, observed many different styles and approaches. In my lessons I aim to ensure the children have fun and learn initially through play growing into strong, capable swimmers. I use my previous experiences as a nurse, carer and school governor to work alongside the children to ensure their lessons are a positive and enjoyable part of their, and their parents, week.
I look forward to meeting you poolside!
