Building confidence in the water, understanding instructions, learning how to use aids and to travel short distances independently. ESA MINNOW ESA 1For confident beginners who can already fully submerge unaided. Being able to swim a few metres unaided is required and we will be working up to 10M unaided swimming in this class. Also, having an understanding of how to move through the water on both front and back. ESA 1 ESA 2This level is for children that can confidently swim 10M unaided. Bilateral breathing is introduced here and some safety aspects are also focused on. Building up the distance to 15M with effective and efficient strokes and in deeper water where possible. Breaststroke is also introduced here. ESA 2 ESA 3This class is for swimmers who can already swim confidently on both front and back for 15M with a basic understanding of breast stroke. Each stroke is broken down in this stage to develop each individual aspect of the strokes. Introducing a butterfly kick here too and building up the distance to 25M across the other strokes. ESA 3 ESA 4This stage is aimed at those that are confident swimming the main 3 strokes with efficient technique. We will develop butterfly in this class and increase distances to 50M. Deeper pools are recommended for this stage onwards to allow swimmers to learn treading water and water safety skills out of their depth. ESA 4 ESA 5These classes are for swimmers that have a range of aquatic skills. Skills include - treading water, sculling, handstands, somersaults and diving. Swimmers should be able to swim a minimum of 25 metres in all 4 strokes with an understanding of correct style. ESA 5 ESA 6This stage is for strong swimmers who have already been introduced to diving and tumble turns, developing these further and consistently using them in long distance swims of 200M+. ESA 6 ESA 7This stage is for those looking to progress onto club level swimming. Being able to complete 1 hour long sessions, swimming 400M-600M while also looking at speed sessions. ESA 7 Junior Advanced SessionsStudents must be able to complete a 1 hour session. Elegantly swim 200 metres continuously, in 3 of the 4 strokes without stopping. - [Stage 10: Competitive Swimming](https://www.eliteswimmingacademy.co.uk/awards/stage-10-competitive-swimming/): By the end of this stage students will have full knowledge of all competitive swimming strokes, turns, starts, relays and races. They will have all necessary skills mastered to a high level in order to start competing for a swim club. We have an Advanced Coaching programme in place, which can be attended upon completion of this stage as a next step in your child’s swimming career.

Competitive swimming sets are introduced as well to start building stamina and endurance. Students are expected to be able to swim at least 800m with excellent technique.

They perform all strokes for 10m to a high standard showing good technique and rhythm.

They will need to swim frontcrawl, backstroke and breaststroke for 100m, as well as swim over 25m of butterfly. ESA 6 classes are aimed to improve style, performance and stamina. During these sessions we will be introducing racing starts and turns as well as water rescue skills.
- [ESA 5](https://www.eliteswimmingacademy.co.uk/awards/esa-5/): ESA stage 5 swimmers should have a very steady frontcrawl, backstroke & breaststroke beyond 25m. They will also be able to swim Butterfly as a complete stroke. The main focus of ESA 5 would be to improve techniques, stamina and show a wide range of aquatic skills. Swimmers will be challenged in these classes and be given the skills to show off their elegance through the water.
- [ESA 4](https://www.eliteswimmingacademy.co.uk/awards/esa-4/): ESA 4 Swimmers will be able to swim Breastroke, Frontcrawl & Backstroke for 25m. Although these may not be perfect in technique yet. The ESA 4 swimmers Journey will focus on improvements of stroke techniques. This stage is also to improve the breathing techniques and timings of the 3 main strokes and start to introduce a Butterfly swim of 15m. We will also cover skills such as treading water, somersaults and pencil jumps into deep water.

The main focus of this stage is breaststroke understanding and breathing control. As well as trying harder tasks, such as sculling and jumping into deep water independently. The swimmers will be strong in the water and understand water safety.
