Open Water Master Class
If you want to transform your open water swimming technique, strength, stamina, speed and understanding with a small group of like-minded people then look no further than this half day course lead personally by English and Irish Channel Swimmer Ed Williams.
This 4 hour course has been refined over the past decade and continues to be our ultimate service for swimmers looking to improve their open water skills in one intense session. Using a combination of theory work, practical work, video analysis and of course lots of swimming, you can expect to end the session a faster, more confident and vastly more efficient swimmer. Any weaknesses in your stroke will be assessed and corrected by Ed who will be out in the water with you or analysing your technique up close from a safety boat for close up technique analysis. You will still get some good long swims in, but you will have a lot of personalised coaching to focus on whilst you do it, to transform your ability.
New to open water swimming?
We understand that open water swimming can be a daunting experience if you are not used to it. We guide you every step of the way to becoming confident and relaxed in this new environment. We keep the group small and match abilities on each course as closely as possible.
Already used to Open water swimming but want to improve?
Become smoother, faster and more efficient in open water. Ed will coach you to perfect your existing technique and teach you lots of new tricks to maximise your potential learned from years of swimming between countries in open water!
As a minimum, you will be expected to swim a distance of 200m of continuous freestyle to participate in our open water group coaching sessions.
If you are unable to meet this requirement we also offer 1-2-1 coaching sessions where we tailor the session to suit the individual so you within your own ability during the session.
We hold these half day courses at Milton Country Park where we have use of their wonderful private lakes. The lake is perfectly set up for open water swimming coaching and has regular water testing. There is ample car parking and a cafe on site too so you can refuel after your swim!
About your Coach
Ed set up Elite Swimming Academy in 2009 after swimming solo across the English Channel in a time of 14 hours. Since then he has gone on to swim many other iconic Channels all over the world including Europe – Africa and Ireland – Scotland. He has learned a lot along the way about how to maximise efficiency and energy in open water, all of which will be taught to you in this course to apply to your own swimming. Visit www.edwardwilliams.org.uk to explore Ed’s Channel swims up close.
Practice Open Water Swimming sessions also available on Friday evenings and Saturday Mornings
Milton Country Park run their own drop in sessions which offer a chance for our swimmers to further practice their open water swimming in safety. These sessions are not coached but are overseen by a safety crew. Full details can be viewed on the Milton Country Park Website.
“Outstanding, is how I would describe the advice from elite swim academy. I feel sure that with their help I will dodge the channel tunnel train fare and swim the channel. Simple techniques taught with a bit of common sense and in an unpatronizing way”
JULIA DAVIS – ASPIRING CHANNEL SWIMMER
“Many thanks for the excellent session. I swam 4km non-stop on Sunday (the furthest I’ve ever swum) In the fastest time per 100m…. with energy left over… many many thanks! Thanks again for your clear coaching style, kind yet constructive instruction and positive feedback.”
Michelle C – Training for an Ironman
“Thank you so much for the fantastic work you have done with my son so far, not only improving his technique and speed but in particular for making it such a positive experience for him. The difference in his speed, technique and more importantly his enjoyment of swimming is wonderful”
“I want to thank for a most enjoyable day on Sunday, it was worth every penny. Got rid of some poor habits that had slipped in, gave me a reminder of how I might be able to swim if I focused a bit more and also interesting to learn new techniques which were previously not the accepted methods. It was fun and I really liked your natural but precise method of delivery”
KATE PHILIPS – FITNESS SWIMMER
“This course was like nothing else I have ever experienced in the world of swimming coaching! The progress I made in just 4 hours is truly remarkable. Over a 400m sprint I am now 3 minutes faster and my stroke rate has dropped below 20 per length when it was 26 Strokes per length yesterday! Best money I have invested in myself for a long time.”
EDDIE MATTHEWS – TRIATHLETE
“Thank you for a spectacular open water course. When you said we would walk away a different swimmer by the end of the day I thought “yes right!” I have been proven wrong and will testify that I have learned more with you in 4 hours than in the last 20 years! I am now faster than my brother for the first time ever. Thank you!”
MARK GRIGGS – TRIATHLETE
